Leonardo

I was born in Pretoria, South Africa on 30 March 1995. I matriculated in 2013 with art as a favourite subject. Since 2014 I have devoted my love for art on a full time basis. In 2016 I took part in my first group exhibition at Boland Chic and another in August 2017 at Youngblood in Cape Town.

I have had a passion for art for as long as I can remember. The human face and its various expressions is what has always drawn me the most. In the past I worked exclusively with pencil and wanted to capture faces as realistically as possible. I have had deep love for the Old Masters like Da Vinci and Rembrandt and also the Impressionists (I am especially fond of van Gogh). Therefore, when I started venturing into painting, I tried to combine my love of these various different painting styles, I ended up painting realistic elements, combined with more loose, abstract brush strokes and paint splatters.

The theme of my work has always been about people from different walks of life. I also like to show the connection people have with their surroundings. How they have influenced/been influenced by their environment.
